LET'S TALK ABOUT IT
Client: MAMPU DFAT
Period: January 2015 - January 2016
“Let’s Talk About It” is a project that aims to increase adolescent and community awareness on reproductive health and improve parenting skills of teachers & parents in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
During a baseline survey conducted on October 2014 in 3 areas in East Nusa Tenggara (Kupang City, Kupang Regency, and Manggarai Barat Regency), OTMI discovered a lack of communication between parents and adolescents in East Nusa Tenggara, especially concerning reproductive health and sexuality. As a result, adolescents look for information from unreliable sources, such as the internet, TV, books/magazines, and other media.
From this finding and supported by Maju Perempuan Indonesia untuk Penanggulangan Kemiskinan Program (MAMPU), a joint initiative of the Government of Australia and the Government of Indonesia, OTMI initiated the “Let’s Talk about It” project: a public campaign to raise awareness of adolescents and the society in East Nusa Tenggara on the issues of reproductive health, sexuality, and communication.
To tackle these issues, OTMI partnered with expert organizations in the field of reproductive health and parenting, such as Perkumpulan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia (PKBI), Yayasan Kita dan Buah Hati (YKBH), Rumah Perempuan, Yayasan Tanpa Batas, and Komisi Penanggulangan AIDS NTT to carry out several pilot activities:
Socializations with interactive activities and videos for junior high school students, parents, and teachers
Developing a reproductive health-themed mobile application
Initiate the making of “letters of love” from junior high school students to their teachers
Production of reproductive health F.A.Q. books
Organizing an inter-school competition
A reproductive health-themed song competition
Organizing a music and movie screening festival
